Hall & TMR Joystick Upgrade
We swap potentiometer sticks for contactless magnetic sensors — wear-based drift doesn't come back
Drift isn't bad luck — it's wear. The joysticks that ship inside PlayStation and Xbox controllers use potentiometers: a metal contact physically rubs a carbon track every time you move the stick. That track wears down, the contact starts reading values that aren't there, and the controller thinks you're moving the stick while it sits still. That's why drift always comes back no matter how much you clean it — the part is worn, not dirty.
Magnetic sensors fix the cause because nothing touches. A magnet at the base of the stick and a sensor reading its field, with no physical contact. We install two kinds: Hall effect, the proven and more affordable option, and TMR 3D, more sensitive and lower power, with better response on the small movements around center. We tell you which one fits how you play and what you want to spend.

What's going on?
These are the cases we see every day. If yours isn't here, call anyway.
- Your character walks or looks around on its own, untouched
- You have to raise the dead zone in every game just to play
- The stick jumps or lags on fine movements
- You already replaced the controller and months later it drifted again
- Your controller is new and you never want this to happen
- You play competitively and need more precision around center
The three parts, side by side
This is what sits inside the stick. The one on the left is what your controller shipped with.

Original analog
Wears outThe factory part. A metal contact rubs a carbon track every time you move the stick. That track wears down, and that is where drift comes from.

Hall effect
ContactlessA magnet and a sensor reading its field, with nothing touching. No rubbing means no wear. It has been on the market for years and is the more affordable option.

TMR 3D
Contactless · more preciseAlso magnetic and contactless, but it detects smaller field changes. More precise on fine movements around center and it draws less battery.
How it works
No surprises. Nothing gets repaired until you approve the price.
- 1
Free diagnostic
We confirm it's the stick and not a firmware or calibration issue, which sometimes gets fixed without opening anything.
- 2
You pick the sensor
We explain the real difference between Hall and TMR with your controller in front of you, and you decide. Neither is "the best" for everyone.
- 3
Microsoldering
We desolder the potentiometer module and solder the new one directly onto the controller board. It's precision work, not a press-fit swap.
- 4
Calibration
We set the center and bring the dead zone down to the minimum the controller accepts, which is where you feel the difference.
- 5
Tested with real games
We play it long enough to check behavior on fine movements, not just in the calibration menu.
Frequently Asked Questions
What people ask us at the counter, answered straight.
- What's the difference between a Hall and a TMR sensor?
- Both are magnetic and neither one rubs, so neither wears out like the original. Hall effect has been on the market for years, it's well proven and costs less. TMR 3D is newer: it detects smaller field changes, so it's more precise on fine movements around center, and it draws less battery. For casual play, Hall is plenty. If you compete in shooters, TMR is noticeable.
- Does it work on a new controller that hasn't drifted yet?
- Yes, and it's the best time to do it. On a new controller the upgrade is preventive: you replace the part that's going to wear out before it starts failing, and you gain precision along the way. There's no need to wait for the problem to show up.
- Which controllers do you do this on?
- PlayStation and Xbox controllers. Send us your exact model on WhatsApp and we'll tell you whether we have the module for it before you leave home.
- How much does it cost and how long does it take?
- From $59.99, depending on the controller model, whether you pick Hall or TMR, and whether you want one stick or both replaced. Turnaround is 24 hours because it's microsoldering work and we don't rush it.
- Does this mean the controller will never fail again?
- Wear-based stick drift doesn't come back — that's the problem this part solves. But a controller has other things that wear out: buttons, triggers, battery, charging port, and those run their normal course. We'd rather say it plainly. The installation carries a 90-day warranty.
